What is IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)?

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) – Ayurvedic treatment at Pure Aushadhi

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a common gut disorder in which the bowel becomes oversensitive. People may have loose motions (IBS-D), constipation (IBS-C) or alternate between both, often with cramps, gas and urgency soon after eating. Stress and anxiety usually make it worse.

IBS does not damage the bowel, but it can disrupt work, travel and social life. We identify your type of IBS and triggers, then prescribe digestion-strengthening medicines, a practical diet and calming routines.

The Ayurvedic view — Grahani

IBS corresponds to Grahani — a disorder of the small intestine, which Ayurveda considers the seat of Agni. When Agni becomes weak or irregular, food is half-digested, Ama forms and stools become irregular. Vata, Pitta or Kapha dominance decides the pattern of symptoms.
