What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation – Ayurvedic treatment at Pure Aushadhi

Pigmentation means patches of skin that are darker than the surrounding area — melasma on the cheeks and forehead, sun spots, freckles, or dark marks left after acne. It often worsens with sun exposure, hormonal changes, pregnancy or certain medicines.

Bleaching creams can thin the skin and pigment frequently returns. We combine internal medicines that address Pitta and liver function with herbal applications and sun-care habits for a gradual, lasting improvement.

The Ayurvedic view — Vyanga / Nilika

Facial pigmentation is described as Vyanga (and Nilika for darker patches). Aggravated Pitta, influenced by Vata and stress, disturbs the colour-giving Bhrajaka Pitta in the skin. Liver health, digestion and emotional balance therefore matter as much as external care.

Stages of Pigmentation & How Your Medicine Changes

We do not give every Pigmentation patient the same medicine. Your formulation, dose and therapies depend on the stage of the disease:

1

Superficial

Signs

Light brown, well-defined spots of recent onset.

Our approach

Herbal face packs, Kumkumadi-type oils and sun protection; short internal course.

2

Mixed

Signs

Patches that are both brown and greyish; months to years old.

Our approach

Internal Pitta-pacifying and liver-supporting medicines with regular topical care.

3

Deep / Resistant

Signs

Grey-blue, long-standing melasma that returns after treatments.

Our approach

Longer internal therapy, detox where suitable and strict trigger control; slow but steady goals.

Pigmentation: Frequently Asked Questions

Melasma can lighten significantly, but it can return with sun exposure or hormonal changes, so ongoing sun care is important.

For light spots it may help, but deeper pigmentation responds better when internal medicines are combined with topical care.

Some medicines are not suitable in pregnancy. Please tell the Vaidya so a safe plan can be made.

The aim is to even out patches and restore your natural tone, not to change your skin colour.
