What is Lipoma?

Lipoma – Ayurvedic treatment at Pure Aushadhi

A lipoma is a soft, rubbery, slow-growing lump of fat under the skin. It usually moves when pressed, is painless and is not cancer. Lipomas commonly appear on the arms, back, shoulders, neck or thighs, and some people get many of them.

Ayurvedic treatment aims to slow growth, reduce size where possible and prevent new lumps by correcting fat metabolism. Results vary — small, recent lipomas respond better than large, old ones. Any lump that is hard, painful or growing fast should always be examined first.

The Ayurvedic view — Medoja Granthi

Lipoma is described as Medoja Granthi — a cyst-like swelling of Meda Dhatu caused by Kapha and Meda imbalance with weak fat metabolism. Treatment uses Kapha-reducing, Granthi-dissolving (Granthihara) herbs and local applications.

Stages of Lipoma & How Your Medicine Changes

We do not give every Lipoma patient the same medicine. Your formulation, dose and therapies depend on the stage of the disease:

1

Small / Recent

Signs

One or a few lumps under 2–3 cm, present for a short time.

Our approach

Kanchanar Guggulu-type formulations, diet and local herbal lepa.

2

Multiple

Signs

Several lumps on the body, often running in families.

Our approach

Longer metabolic treatment to slow new formation, with lipid and sugar control.

3

Large / Painful

Signs

Lumps over 5 cm, painful or pressing on nerves.

Our approach

Evaluation and, if needed, surgical removal; Ayurveda then helps prevent recurrence.

Lipoma: Frequently Asked Questions

Lipomas are benign (non-cancerous). But any new or changing lump should be examined to confirm what it is.

Small lipomas may reduce in size, and treatment helps prevent new ones. Large lipomas may still need removal.

Multiple lipomas often run in families and relate to fat metabolism, which is what our treatment addresses.

Removed lipomas rarely return in the same place, but new ones can form elsewhere.
